The Smalls
ACE Project Grant Supporting Document
Calling all soil supporters, creature campaigners, dirt defenders! The time has come to look down, deeper, and defend The Smalls.
Join us for a fun, fascinating interactive dance experience exploring the magical microworld of soil animals with small people and their grown-ups.
You can expect a joyful, playful celebration of The Smalls. You will meet strange and wonderful animals as we wriggle together through the untold story of their ecosystem.
A teaspoon of soil contains up to 6 billion microorganisms - many not much larger than a grain of salt - and they helped to create the first soils nearly 500 million years ago.
Many soil animals are tinier than termites and weeny-er than worms, yet the health of the entire ecosystem and the future of our food depends on them.
Come explore this incredible, little-known microworld. We promise you will leave inspired and full of wonder…
A show made with, by and for small people and their grown-ups.
This trailer documents The Smalls' initial research and development residency and was filmed at The Place, London in August 2024.
Commissioned by The Place. Supported by Evolving Forests and Research England’s Higher Education Innovation Fund.
